The Mather Lifeways Institute on Aging recently announced their 2014 Promises Practices Awards. The Sarasota Bay Club was among the honorees, as a result of an innovative program that benefitted both residents and young students.
Sarasota Bay Club’s Kathleen Rhem designed and oversaw the intergenerational reading and art program that teamed older adult volunteers with seven-to nine-year old girls. Through a grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota, Girls Inc. was offered an opportunity to develop a grade level reading program and the partnership with Sarasota Bay Club was the result. The “Bay Club Summer Kids Program” will continue this summer, with support from KAETA (Kids and Elders Through the Arts).
