1. Exercise is Important

There are many benefits to getting exercise every day. When you exercise it increases your circulation, improves your mood, and strengthens your body. It also improves your immune function by helping you recover faster from an illness or injury. When you do a cardio workout it will help with cardiovascular function and decrease the risk of heart disease. This will in turn help with hypertension and high blood pressure. There are also benefits of reducing the risk of osteoporosis by slowing bone density loss. The types of exercise that can be helpful are:

  • Cardio and Aerobic Endurance
  • Strength and Resistance Training
  • Stretching and Flexibility

2. Be social

Being social is healthy and a great way to also stay active in your retirement community. Going out to meet people in your local retirement community will lead to a healthier lifestyle. There are always functions to attend and events like movie nights, brunches, and poker games that will give you an opportunity to meet new people. It is important to find people who share your passions. This can lead to mutual vacations and adventures.

3. Have a Plan

When you have a plan laid out it can reduce stress. Your plan should include a budget, a health and well-being objective, and an independent living strategy.

  • Budget – Sit down with a financial planner and work out the best budget for your lifestyle. Once you have a budget set up you will have a better idea of living and vacation expenses.
  • Health and Well-Being – Consult with a doctor about what type of physical activity is best for you and for your lifestyle. Set up a workout plan and stick to it.
  • Independent Living Strategy – Look at different retirement communities and find one that works best for you. Ask questions and set up times to visit the community to determine where you would like to live.

4. Share your Knowledge

There are many places to do volunteer work and share your life stories with children and adults. Children’s hospitals and libraries are great places to help out by reading stories and doing volunteer work. Schools are also in need of volunteers to help with children who need one on one time and assistance with reading. The opportunities to volunteer and share your knowledge are endless.New Call-to-action
